Welcome to Stars 101

It's the start of the school year here at the University of Colorado and so in the spirit of classwork, I've decided to cheat. That's right, I'm inconspicuously looking over Joe's shoulder and copying off of his paper. Joe's recent series of posts on cosmology and other topics has inspired me to start my own series of posts entitled "Stars 101". These posts will cover what we know about stars - how they form, what they do, how they impact our little planet, and how they die. Since I am a solar physicist, it's likely that the sun will pop up more than it should and since I do computer models of the sun, I'll probably talk about computational work more than anyone cares to read - but every class has it's useless moments. Hopefully, it will be entertaining, informative, and better than that physical science class you had to take as an undergrad.

  1. I am really, really glad you are doing this Nick. I know you know a lot about stars and reading these posts will be a really good thing.

  2. I am excited to read these too. I am happy to read about science from another perspective. This blog is like a science panel with different opinions. This is good.

Also, stars are pretty like the picture.

  3. I recently read 'Death From The Skies!: These Are the Ways the World Will End...' Other than all the deperessing, yet interesting ways the cosmos can destroy us, there is a very good chapter on the life cycle of our sun. Very cool!
