For Romney he will come across as a good sport, with no hard feelings, who is willing to first and foremost do what is best for the party. I think this will help his future political career. Maybe he will be praised enough that McCain would consider him as a running mate for my next claim:
This is good for McCain and the republican party. It is no secret the party is not satisfied with McCain over all. For various reasons, far right wingers don't like him. They do, however, like how Romney stands on issues. Romney's endorsement will help boost confidence for McCain for right-wingers. This will hopefully, for the parties sake, provide some unity. It will also help McCain get over the delegate hump he needs to with the nomination.
From the New York Times:
Senator John McCain of Arizona is poised to receive the backing of Mitt Romney, who was his most formidable main rival and most heated opponent this year, later Thursday afternoon, officials in both campaigns said.
With his Valentine’s Day endorsement, Mr. Romney will release his delegates – and while the rules vary by state, he can ask many of them to support Senator McCain...
The formal announcement is expected to come at 4 p.m. at Mr. Romney’s campaign headquarters in Boston.
This is fine, so far. I wouldn't advise Romney to accept a position in a McCain administration. He would be better off speaking, helping Republican candidates raise money and campaigning for them to build goodwill during the next four years.
ReplyDeleteMy impression of John McCain is that he doesn't take advice easily. He would not like being outshone by one of his underlings.

ReplyDeleteYour probably right ast. It would probably be best for Romney to do what's best for the republican party without getting hung up in the McCain administration.
He should let McCain come and go, and be in favor enough with the rest of the party that next time, they might choose him.
