Join The Ubuntu Countdown, Save The World

Okay everybody, here is your chance to help take the first step toward solving all the world's problems. Start pinning up the official Ubuntu countdown everywhere you can on the web. For when it comes to all the world's problems, as former President Clinton wisely said: "All You Need Is Ubuntu."

Here is the website that contains the script:

  1. As much as I've grown to love Mac's over the past few months, I will admit that this is a great example of something that Linux does better than Mac OS: they announce a release date!

Mac OS v10.5, or "Leopard" as Apple calls it, is scheduled for release in October 2007 and that's all Apple is saying. My wife and I would like to get one of those new iMacs so that we have a desktop she can use for video editing, however we have no idea when we'll be able to get one with the new OS because APPLE WON'T TELL US WHEN IT WILL BE AVAILABLE! It could be tomorrow, it could be next week, or it could even be that on October 31st, they change the release date again.

I suppose that's the price you pay when your OS is not open source.

  2. Yea, Nick, Steve Jobs likes surprising people. He thinks it attracts more hype about the product. Maybe it does, Apple is doing great.

Personally, I really like knowing when things will be released. I can plan for the future that way.

By the way, I read an article saying it will be released within the next two weeks. A, I cannot tell you where I read it and B, the author was only guessing based on "updates" being made to the OS so he might be way off.

  3. This comment has been removed by the author.

  4. I have read similar articles about possible release dates. One blog quoted a "source inside Apple" that said that the last build has only one bug that will be fixed before launch. There are apparently a couple of known smaller bugs, but the source claims those won't be fixed before launch. The bug to be fixed, however, involved the OS causing applicatns to crash when minimized, so it sounds like a big fish left to fry.

The annoying thing for me is that this is all totally speculative. It could be that all of this is just a rumor and they still won't release for weeks to come. We just don't know because good old Steve likes his hype.

  5. Ha, Ha, Joe. I don't think that is was President Clinton meant by that...
