Dell launches three Ubuntu Linux PCs

May 24, 2007 (IDG News Service) -- Dell Inc. officially launched its first three consumer PCs running the Ubuntu 7.04 Linux OS on Thursday -- two desktops and an Inspiron E1505n notebook PC.

The PCs are available in the U.S. from Dell's Web site at http://www.dell.com/open. The laptop starts at US$599, while the two desktops, the Dimension E520 and XPS 410n, start from $599 and $849 each, respectively.

A comparable Inspiron Laptop running Windows starts at $699. You will save going with Ubuntu.

  1. Two years ago, I never thought I'd say this, but now that Dell is officaly offering Linux on it's machines, I'm taking a serious look at buying one of their Ubuntu laptops. I realized today that by using VI, seriously considering a Linux laptop, and knowing at least 4 programming languages, I've offically become a computer dork.

    Oh the humanity!!!!

    By the way, Nick, there is another Latex editor for Linux called kile. It really works nice. (Better than texmaker) Tab completion, spelling and everything.

  3. PS. Nick, if you do get an Ubuntu machine you can still run XP in a virtual machine inside of Ubuntu itself if you still have your XP cds.
