For a few years now scientists have been trying to pin down two effects predicted by general relativity: geodetic warping of Earth's local space-time and frame dragging.
The first results for the geodesic effect are in: namely that the data from the GP-B gyroscopes clearly confirm Einstein's predicted geodetic effect to a precision of better than 1 percent. Since the effect of the frame dragging is 170 times smaller they can not yet announce the results on this yet. However, they feel confident that within the next eight months they will be able to report on this.
I’m excited.
