See, Some Physicists Have Normal Work Ethics Too

An unnamed graduate student speaking about an unnamed professor had this to say:
I decided to have Professor X be my thesis advisor because he/she feels like a 40 hour week is sufficient. The whole 50-60 hour a week attitude just wasn't working for me.
So there you go, some physicists believe in normal work loads.

  1. One of the reasons I came to Colorado is that the majority of the department feels that there needs to be a reasonable workload on grad students. I don't work a standard 40 hour week, but I would say that my average week is in the 45 hour range. Occasionally I'll have a 65 hour week, but I also occasionally have a 30 hour week, so it all works out to pretty reasonable expectations.
